Are you a veteran or a spouse of a veteran? Are you homebound and in need of food assistance? If the answer is yes, then the Valor Homebound Veterans Food Program can help.

The organization provides free food deliveries and services in Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, Monroe, Pike and Luzerne counties.

Kevin Cope, manager of community outreach and volunteers, said the Valor Homebound Veterans Food Program was started a little over a year ago.

“We want to get the word out to any veterans or families who may not be aware that it’s out there,” Cope said. “It’s very similar to going to a food pantry, but we’re actually bringing the food to them. The program is a good way that Valor Clinic can really connect with a veteran’s family to see if we can assist or if there are any other services we can offer them,” he said.

The group is trying to get the word out.

“It’s been doing wonderful, but as (it’s) a new service we’re providing, the key is to get the word out to the community at large, other nonprofits, basically food pantries because food pantries are a key resource to us. They do a wonderful job.”

Some veterans can’t get out to the food pantries.

“We bring the food to them,” Cope said.

Cope added the Valor Homebound Veterans Food Program was started in the six counties, “but if we do get calls from other counties, we’ll look at assisting them as well.”

To date, he said the program has served about 20 veterans and added they’re looking at branching out into additional counties.

“The biggest thing is all our services are free; there’s no cost to veterans or their family,” Cope said. “We don’t say no. We find solutions to the problem.”

Cope noted that the program is just one of several services it provides for free.
