James Joseph Verholy

formerly of Salisbury Township

James Joseph Verholy, 93, of Allentown, died May 23, 2025, in Cedarbrook Nursing Home, Allentown. He was the husband of the late Gladys Irene (Knauss) Verholy, who died in 2020.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late John Verholy Sr. and Mary (Shipitka) Verholy.

He was a graduate of William Allen High School.

He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

He worked as a welder for Lehigh Structural Steel for 36 years. He also worked at the Fitness Plaza for 30 years until retiring in 2021 at the age of 90.

He was a member of the former St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Allentown.

He enjoyed collecting coins, reading, lottery tickets and going to the casino. Most of all, he loved time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by daughters, Karen L. Seabourne and her husband, Rick, of Mertztown and Kim E. Heffelfinger, of Blandon; grandchildren, Casey Heffelfinger Rogol (Cory), Jennifer Seabourne Howells (Seth) and Melissa Seabourne Lesher (Cody); great-grandchildren, Camryn Jaymes Rogol and Remi Howells.

He was preceded in death by brothers, John Jr. and Thomas.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. June 2 in the K.V. Knopp Funeral Home, 46 E. Susquehanna St., Allentown. A viewing for relatives and friends will be held 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

All are also invited to attend his graveside service 11 a.m. July 18 at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, 1700 Airport Road, Allentown.
