Marvin L. Hartzell

Vietnam War veteran

Marvin “Larry” Hartzell, 77, of Lansford, died May 2, 2025, at Lehigh Valley Inpatient Hospice, Allentown. Born in Palmerton, Carbon County, he was the son of the late Marvin Franklin and Mary Charlotte (Gyermeli) Hartzell.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He found working with at risk youth at both KidsPeace in Schnecksville and Concern in Mahoning the most rewarding part of his career.

He is survived by sisters, Jean V. Rasely, of Plant City, Fla., Catherine M. Derhammer (Oliver), of Danielsville, Theresa M. Papay, of Lehighton, Rosemary A. Lorah (Keith), of Walnutport; nieces and nephews, David, Brian, Scott, Lynn, Tammy; nine great-nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held noon May 24 at the Slatedale Fire Company, 3922 Main St., Slatedale. The Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., in Schnecksville, is in charge of arrangements. Online expressions of sympathy may be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com.
