Macungie Borough Council met for its regularly scheduled meeting May 19 at the Macungie Institute where a resident spoke about his desire to install a hot tub at his residence. He followed the procedures to file for permits. There are delays in obtaining these permits which is causing frustration for the resident. This situation will be turned over to the Borough Manager John Brown.
Another resident spoke about a yard in the borough with very tall grass. It was brought to council’s attention but the resident was advised borough hall should be notified.
A resident spoke in support of the Macungie Fire Department.
The newest crosswalk light was installed and will soon be ready for operation.
A tree hanging near the creek and causing obstructions has been trimmed.
Two residents have expressed interest in the council vacancy – Kaleb Wassa and Megan Sell. Council members discussed the candidates’ interests and will make a decision by the next meeting.
Resolution 2025-02 was approved for the park project on Spruce Street. This a grant funded project for $250,000 with a $37,400 match for the borough.
Police Officer Raphael Rivera has resigned from the police department.
The public works department requested a fire hydrant repair tool for $1,012.50 which was approved.
There was an executive session held for legal, personnel and real estate issues.
