Egypt/Cementon: Egypt VFW Post 7293 will hold concerts Friday, Saturday

Egypt Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7293, 5209 Springmill Road, will be hosting concerts by Jimmy Leahy and Greg Hollister May 23, Stereotype May 24, Two of a Kind May 30, Burn May 31 and the James Supra Band June 7. These concerts begin 7:30 p.m.

Concerts are free to members, but there is a cost for guests and nonmembers.

The VFW will hold a summer cookout as the Boondock Barons entertain 1 p.m. June 1, and singer/songwriter Mike Sherer performs 7 p.m. June 5.

The VFW auxiliary will be holding a basket raffle fundraiser, set for 5-9 p.m. May 23 and then 10 a.m.-8:30 p.m. May 24. All proceeds benefit the auxiliary.

Winners will be contacted. The basket pickup will be held 1-3 p.m. May 25.

VFW Post 7293 Memorial Day services will begin 9:30 a.m. May 26 at the Cementon memorial on Main Street. Participants will then travel to Egypt for a 10 a.m. service at the Doughboy statue at Park and South Church streets and 10:30 a.m. at the Egypt Park memorial at Hillcrest Lane and Curt Simmons Drive.

Whitehall Township will hold a joint veterans program, including American Legion Post 367, Fullerton; American Legion Jones Quigg Post 739, Hokendauqua; VFW Post 7293; and Whitehall Police Honor Guard, starting 11:30 p.m. at the municipal building, 3219 MacArthur Road.

The day will end with a program at the VFW Post, 5209 Springmill Road, approximately 12:30 p.m. after the joint service at the municipal building. The VFW’s Memorial Day remembrance will continue until 6 p.m. with free food and beverages for veterans. There is a cost for non-military.

Trivia and music bingo is planned for 7 p.m. May 29 at VFW Post 7293.

Egypt Memorial Park’s festival and Curt Simmons Day is set for 11 a.m.-10 p.m. May 31. Events include a cornhole tournament, car show 11 a.m.-5 p.m., a cupcake contest from noon to 2 p.m. and then entertainment by GirlCrue 2-5 p.m., Higher Notion 5-6 p.m. and the Aardvarks 7-10 p.m.

There will also be a basket raffle, crafts, games, kids’ activities and plenty of food and beverages available for purchase.

Registration is open for the Curt Simmons Day cornhole tournament. Visit the Egypt Memorial Park Facebook page for details and to register. There is a cost.

Whitehall Lions Club, in cooperation with Miller-Keystone Blood Center, is sponsoring a blood drive 9 a.m.-2 p.m. July 2 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 4331 Main St., Egypt.

Eligible donors include those who are not taking blood thinners, who have not donated within the past 56 days and minors 16 years or older with a signed parent/guardian permission slip.

A bingo and spaghetti dinner is set for 1 p.m. June 15 at VFW Post 7293. The dinner includes salad, spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread and dessert.

Register your child, ages 3 through those entering seventh grade in the fall, for True North Vacation Bible School, scheduled for 6-8:30 p.m. June 23-27 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. Children will take part in hands-on science experiments, team-building games, Bible songs and a mission project that will provide kids in North America with new warm clothes and blankets.

The youth group at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church is collecting new or gently used clothing for all ages and genders, shoes, purses, belts, backpacks, hats, scarves, handbags, briefcases, gloves and ties and household items like tablecloths, towels, bed sheets, curtains and stuffed animals. They also accept bicycles that are in good working condition.

The clothing will be distributed to local thrift shops and in areas in need of clothing. Place shoes in a separate bag or box.

Put all items in bags and drop them off in the enclosed porch off the parking lot in the rear of the church by June 14.
