East Allen Twp. supervisors fill empty seat

Lehigh County deputy sheriff was former Allentown police officer

During the May 8 East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting, supervisors filled the open seat on the board, vacated when Frank Kostecky unexpectedly died in April. The new supervisor’s term ends Dec. 31.

Louis Collins, a deputy sheriff in Lehigh County Sheriff’s Office, was appointed unanimously to the supervisor seat. Collins is a former city of Allentown police officer with more than 20 years of experience. He brings a wealth of experience in city and county law enforcement to the board.

As a sergeant for Allentown Police Department, Collins and other officers were awarded a certificate of recognition in 2019 for their work at the Aggressive Driving Education and Enforcement Program.

Collins becomes the third supervisor to serve in this East Allen Board of Supervisors seat during the current four-year cycle. He will be up for election this November should he choose to pursue elected office.

Kostecky was appointed supervisor in June 2024 to replace former supervisor Donald Heiney, who resigned in May 2024, with no public explanation. He also served East Allen as the township tax collector in addition to serving on the supervisors board.

The recreation committee reported the township’s summer camp is being organized. Registration is open for campers ages 6 to 11 years old. The camp will run 9 a.m.-1 p.m. June 16-Aug. 1. The resident fee is $250 for a first child and $150 for additional children. Nonresidents will pay $350 for a first child and $250 for additional children.

In past summer camps, Wildlands Conservancy visited with animals for campers to learn about. Pennsylvania State Police have also visited with safety education and a tour of the state police helicopter. There are numerous games and other fun activities for the campers.

All camp counselors have the necessary child abuse clearances.

For more summer camp information, contact recreation Director Chuck Frantz at recreation@eatwp.org or 610-262-7896, ext. 305.

The Northampton Regional Emergency Medical Services, which covers East Allen Township and many other regional municipalities, held a recent Community Safety Day for residents at the ambulance headquarters on Canal Street in Northampton.

The event was well attended and offered a variety of safety education, blood pressure monitoring, a bounce house, a car seat check and more. Visit nrems.org to learn more about its lifesaving services and how you can support them.

East Allen Historical Society meets the third Wednesday monthly, and East Allen Township Open Space and Farmland Preservation Committee meets the third Thursday of every month. Both groups are seeking additional members, and both groups meet 7 p.m. on their respective days at the township municipal building, 5344 Nor-Bath Blvd.

Supervisors also approved the minutes of the April 10 and 24 meetings.

The next board of supervisors meeting is a workshop, set for 7 p.m. May 22 at the municipal building. It is a hybrid meeting, with both in-person and virtual options. Visit eatwp.org to access the meeting’s agenda and learn how to access the meeting virtually.
