2025-2026 budget passed

The Salisbury Township School District Board of Directors held a regular school board meeting May 14 following an executive session. The board was called to vote upon a proposed final budget, several resignations, new hires and a temporary construction easement related to the Vistas at South Mountain project.

During the curriculum and technology portion of the meeting the board approved agreements with Seton Hall University, Moravian University and the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit for accelerated studies, dual enrollment and Project AWARE programs, respectively.

Operations and finance committee chairperson Thomas Spinner brought several motions to the board seeking approval for a fuel bid, Frontline Education Renewal, an Employee Assistance Program contract, a food service bid with SFE and the purchase of library furniture in the amount of $109,535. All motions passed.

Spinner asked for clarification on a temporary construction easement at the site of the Vistas at South Mountain located at the corner of East Emmaus Avenue and Gaskill Avenue before bringing it up for a vote. Superintendent Lynn Fuini-Hetten explained the area in question involves deeding the right of way to the township so a sidewalk and crosswalk can be built. The temporary easement allows the construction company to do what is necessary to construct the sidewalk and when the project is complete they will restore it and revert the property back to the district. The board voted to approve the easement.

The next item on the agenda was the proposed final budget for the 2025-2026 school year which passed with a total of eight votes. Director Ian Riccaboni was not in attendance.

The board approved the resignations of Tracey Saab as building substitute, Gregory Laub as tennis coach and Destynie Lichtenwalner as assistant cheerleading coach.

New hires granted approval include Keianna Lopez, cheerleading coach, Arnaldo Lopez, middle school football coach, Robert Fiedler, head wrestling coach and Anne Ruiz, middle school assistant field hockey coach.

The board approved an agreement with Lehigh Carbon Community College for the dual enrollment program effective Aug. 1 through July 31, 2026.

In her superintendent’s report Fuini-Hetten highlighted the focus of the May 6 Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators Advocacy Day she attended held in Harrisburg which was to help legislators understand the need for funding and charter school tuition reforms.

She noted she recently met with the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission to discuss housing, transportation and the lack of growth within the district due to being essentially landlocked.

Additionally, she was involved in discussions with Lehigh Career and Technical Institute as they work to offer programs aligned with the identified high priority occupations needed in the Lehigh Valley.

In closing, she had high praise for the work of the students, faculty and staff who made the art show a success.

The Salisbury Township School District will hold an operations and finance committee meeting 7 p.m. June 11. A curriculum and technology meeting followed by a regular school board meeting will be held 7 p.m. June 18.

All meetings will be held in the administration building, 1140 Salisbury Road.
