BETHLEHEM AREA SD

TIME CHANGES: All BASD schools will be closed May 26, Memorial Day (offices and childcare closed).

LAST DAYS: For elementary through eighth grade, the last day of school is June 6. For HS underclassmen, June 5 and 6 are final exam days. June 9 is a makeup day for underclassmen final exams.

NEXT YEAR: The first day of the 2025–26 school year is Monday, Aug. 25. The full 2025-26 calender is on the school website, basdschools.org

FREDDY NOMINATIONS: Freedom HS has seven nominations, including Outstanding Use of Choreography and Musical Staging; Outstanding Small Ensemble Performance by Cole Faccinetto and Kiersten Rubery who sang “Looking for a Boy;” Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, Kiersten Rubery as Duchess Estonia Dulworth; Outstanding Vocal Performance, Tori Prostko who sang “But Not for Me;” Student Achievement Award, Lydia Hornbaker, Student Director and Choreographer; and Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Cole Faccinetto as Cookie McGhee; and Outstanding Technical Design for the FHSTC production of “Nice Work If You can Get It.”

Liberty HS has four nominations, including Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Declan Messics as Bill Austi; Outstanding Stage Crew; Outstanding Featured Performance by an Actress, Hana Mohamed as Sophie Sheridan; Outstanding Small Ensemble Performance by Andrew Bays, Ben Greybeal, Declan Messics and Hana Mohamed for “Thank You for the Music” for the Liberty Theatre production of “Mamma Mia!” The Freddy Awards will be broadcast live on WFMZ May 22 at 7 p.m.

MENTAL HEALTH: May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and BASD is committed to supporting the mental well-being of its students, staff and families. Let’s break the stigma, raise awareness, and remind each other: it’s OK to ask for help, and you are never alone.

FOOD PROGRAMS: Free bagged Lunch for any school aged child. Northeast MS, East Hills MS, Broughal MS and Nitschmann MS, June 16- Aug. 22, noon to 1 p.m. (closed on July 4).

VACCINE CLINIC: The Northeast MS vaccine clinic is typically held every Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Appointments are required. Please contact the school nurse to assist you with scheduling an appointment.

SOCCER CAMP: At Nitschmann MS, the camp will be for students entering grades 1-7; boys and girls; any experience welcome. Staffed by the Liberty HS coaching staff in conjunction with Liberty HS alumni and student volunteers. June 21-23 from 4 to 7 p.m., and June 23-25 from 9 a.m. to noon. Family discounts and scholarships available.

These students, in partnership with ArtsQuest, took full ownership of the experience – from artist selection and event planning to marketing and promotion – gaining valuable real-world skills while contributing to one of the nation’s most celebrated music festivals.

CAR WASH: BAVTS is sending seven top State Leadership Conference winners to Nashville this June, to compete in the International Leadership Conference. A car wash from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 30 in the back of BAVTS, 3300 Chester Ave. (Auto Tech garages) will raise funds for these competing students.

SENIOR RECOGNITION: BAVTS Class of 2025 Senior Recognition Ceremony, Tuesday, June 3, at 6:30 p.m. AT Liberty High School Memorial Gym. Information will be shared with the seniors via a special Google Classroom that they have been invited to via their BAVTS email.
