Lloyd wins gold for WHS

The Whitehall Zephyrs were awarded three medals at the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Track and Field Championships on May 7 and 8 at Whitehall High School.

Carter Troxell was the first Zephyr to medal on Day 1, taking third place in shot put (46-5.25). On Day 2, Tommy Lloyd won the gold medal for javelin (197-1).

“It was my first attempt (in prelims),” Lloyd said. “I was doing a short approach, and then my coach told me to do a full run up, and I haven’t been doing a full run up at all this entire year. It’s kind of new to me, so I’m trying to have everything clicking, and today, it was not clicking.”

Still, Lloyd was excited to defend his title, and will have another opportunity at the district meet this week.

“I’m trying to get better every day, so, we’ll see,” he said.

Reese Prebosnyak won the bronze medal in the 400 meter dash (50.26).

“I wanted to come out hard, make sure I saved enough energy for that final 100 meters, and give it everything I had to get to the finish line,” said Prebosnyak. “I started in Lane 7, so I got ahead on the stagger a little bit, and then I believe I was in third on that final 100, and I pushed. I exceeded my seed (sixth) a little bit. I want to break 50.00 (for districts) if possible.”
