Liberty back in EPC title game vs. PHS
The possibility of an all-Bethlehem EPC baseball final with Liberty and Freedom came to an end Monday night, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a city representative in Wednesday’s championship.
Liberty will go for their third straight league title against Parkland at 7:05 p.m. back at DeSales after registering a miraculous comeback against Nazareth in Monday’s semifinal nightcap with a 6-5 win.
The top-seeded Hurricanes (18-4) scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the victory, following Franklin Pichardo’s two-out, two-run RBI single with the bases loaded for the walk off victory.
It’s just another chapter in Liberty’s historic story over the past several seasons, where the Hurricanes quest for another championship continues.
Nazareth (16-6) scored three runs in the third inning when Matt Daems and Chase Kilareski ripped a pair of RBI doubles to help push Nazareth on top.
The Blue Eagles led 4-1 heading into the sixth, before Liberty’s Justin Frey belted an RBI single to get the ‘Canes within two runs.
Nazareth added a run in the seventh before Liberty scored two runs off ground outs until Pichardo ultimately came through with the game winning hit.
Freedom (16-6) lost their fifth game of the season by one run, falling to Parkland 2-1 in Monday’s first semifinal.
Will Dobil nailed the game-winning RBI single in the sixth inning to give the Trojans (16-5) the go-ahead run and push them to Wednesday’s league title against Liberty, which will be the first meeting for both schools this season after not playing in the regular season.
