Area schools earn 17 medals

Bethlehem Catholic, Freedom, and Liberty were awarded 17 medals at the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Track and Field Championships on May 7 and 8 at Whitehall High School.

Liberty’s girls captured the first gold medal for the Bethlehem schools with a win in the 4x800 relay by Emma Haas, Anijah Davis, Katie Drabouski, and Elizabeth McClarin (9:34.03).

Freedom secured the second gold medal of Day 1 with Ethan Huertas’ victory in the 300 hurdles (39.75).

Teammate Stephan Richards placed third in the same event (41.38).

Also from Freedom, Dylan Boyle was the silver medalist in the 3200 meter run (9:53.28).

Liberty’s Casey Huie placed second in pole vault (13-3), and teammate Anthony Otero came in third in triple jump (44-3.50).

On Day 2, Freedom’s Amare DuBoise clinched first place in the 110 hurdles (15.15), and Liberty’s Otero won gold in the long jump (22-10.50).

“It was my first [jump] in the prelims. I fouled most of my other ones,” said Otero. “I definitely wanted to come out here and do my best, and I’m glad I did. I think that was actually the first time I ever got an actual first place medal, so it felt good. I was a little nervous, but it felt good.”

Distance runners Drabouski and McClarin placed second (5:03.28) and third (5:06.00), respectively, in the 1600 meter run.

Freedom’s Natalie Ray won a bronze medal in the 200 meter dash (25.20) and a fourth place medal in the 400 meter run (56.93).

In the 800 meter run, Liberty’s David Myer came from three places behind second to clinch the silver medal (1:58.44), and Bethlehem Catholic’s Mekhi Britt placed fourth (2:00.17).

Also from Becahi, Daviana Jones placed third in javelin (118-2).

Liberty’s Abigail Hackett took second place in long jump (17-1), and the Hurricane 4x400 relay team of Desiree Freeman, Davis, Drabouski and McClarin placed third (4:04.36).
