7 medals for CHS

The Catasauqua Rough Riders were awarded seven medals at the Colonial League Track and Field Championships on May 7 and 8 at Whitehall High School.

Not only did Manny Bolmer take second place in long jump (22-11) but broke Catasauqua’s school record in the process.

“I was just trying to P.R. for my personal best, which was 22-4 that I did a couple weeks ago, and I did that more than once, but honestly, I think it was more luck. I tried to get more airtime, and that’s what got me farther,” Bolmer said.

Bolmer, coached by Kyle Rusnock, reached 22-11 on his second jump.

“I felt really loose, I stretched more than I do, and I got my steps down. I made sure I was spot-on,” he said. “My coaches tell me that I tend to lean back as I’m in the air, so that jump, I was more straight up in the air, and I had a perfect landing. I didn’t even think I was gonna get close to 23, and I was an inch away, so it’s a really big milestone for me, my coaches, my whole team, and my school.”

Teammate Frankie Pujols won a fourth place medal in 300 hurdles (41.84).

Pujols and Bolmer were part of Catty’s 4x100 relay team, as well as Omar Pacheco and Hamaad Jenkins, who took fourth place (44.08).

Jenkins won an individual fourth place medal in the 200 meter dash (22.68).

Catty’s girls 4x100 relay also won a fourth place medal with Julia Harth, Florenni DeJesus, Kayla Davis, and Hailey Jenkins (50.61).

Hailey Jenkins was a double gold medalist, clinching first place in the 100 meter dash (12.11) and the 200 meter dash (25.36).

“I was very happy, especially because the past two meets I haven’t been able to compete because I sprained my foot playing basketball, so it does feel good to be able to come back and win gold in two of those,” Jenkins said. “I definitely want to break 12.00 (at districts). I think my block starts are really good, and I’m excited to have someone actually push me.”
