N. Catty council discusses summer meeting schedule

During the May 5 North Catasauqua Borough Council meeting, it was announced council will not hold a meeting May 19. An email will be sent to members regarding if a meeting will be held June 2 or 16 and July 7 or 21 for the summer meeting schedule.

The June and July meeting dates have not been finalized, but council is leaning toward June 16 and July 21 to meet.

It was also mentioned the borough office window will be closed May 20 — Primary Election Day — due to both districts voting at this location, 1066 Fourth St. Staff will be helping the county with signage and organization for the change.

As another important date notice, the borough office will be closed June 6 due to both Secretary Tasha Jandrisovits and Treasurer Tricia Tillman being off.

In a phone call with The Press after the council meeting, Jandrisovits said the zoning hearing board meeting that took place May 8 is moving along, with some modifications. The board approved the accessory apartment in the rear of 1342 Third St., but an official final approval will not occur until the solicitor renders the decision.

Starting 5:30 p.m. June 12, there will be two other hearings — 1001-1003 Second St., regarding a proposed sober living facility, and 1134 Howertown Road, regarding a proposed business change.

Council approved for the Local Government Unit Debt Act financial report to be sent to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development under ordinance 447. The DCED will decide if the borough is financially able to take on debt for the new emergency radios.

In other news, the agreement with YMCA for the Fun in the Sun summer program was signed, and the first check of $3,986.63 was issued. The borough is covering a total of $5,000, and the rest of the program cost will be taken over by the borough recreation committee, along with the wiffle ball cost.

The borough recreation committee is hoping to open the snack stand by May 19 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St. Items will be for cash-only sales.

The committee is also accepting applications to run the wiffle ball program, which will be held in the afternoon after the Fun in the Sun program.

Local Shared Accounts grant resolutions were updated to reflect the current amounts. Resolution 401 seeks $1 million for a firetruck, and resolution 402 seeks $425,100 for roof construction at the borough building. Council is hoping to hear by September if this funding is granted.

Also at the meeting, council approved sewer relief requests for 1165 Railroad St. and 809 Hendon Lane. There will be a reduction in cost due to a leaking toilet and a burst pipe. A one-time credit will be issued.

Council approved a Knox Box for fire Chief Roger Scheirer’s vehicle. The cost — $996 — was already included in the 2025 budget.

Borough council meets 7 p.m. at the municipal building, 1066 Fourth St. Visit the borough website, northcatasauqua.org, for announcements on the summer meeting schedule.
