Legion supports community

Catasauqua American Legion Post 215, 330 Second St., under the leadership of Commander Mike Rennig and his social committee team, continue to grow their social activities and community outreach over the pasted few years.

Most recently, the Post honored Mother’s Day by lowering any drink’s cost by $1 on Mother’s Day.

Post 215 also teamed up with the Catasauqua Main Streets group, led by Kim Brubaker, to promote, sell and distribute banners honoring Catasauqua veterans. The popular banners, honoring those who served the nation, line borough streets with a possible additional round of banners to come out later this year. Purchasing details are forthcoming.

Numerous municipalities are honoring veterans and first responders via Hometown Heroes banners.

A semiformal event was held by the George Taylor House at the Legion social hall. The event was called a red-carpet viewing party for a “Ghost Hunters” episode featuring Interstate Paranormal Research that evaluated the historic home and found paranormal activity there.

The Legion also holds a bingo night 7 p.m. every Tuesday for members only.

Other events include partnering with the Catasauqua High School football team for a cash bingo bonanza last February, polka dance nights, Lehigh County Legion Commanders dinners, Easter egg hunts and Santa events during the Christmas season.

Crystal Gilfert, John O’Connell, Susie Horner and Carol Roach are some, but not all, of the volunteers who assist Rennig with the social hall events to insure their success.

The Legion social hall can be rented by calling 610-264-1606. Popular events are wedding receptions, school graduations, anniversaries and birthday celebrations.

Post hours of operation are 1-6 p.m. Sundays; 3-10 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; 3-9 p.m. Wednesdays; and 3-11 p.m. Fridays. The Post is closed Mondays. There is a full bar and food for sale.
