Students recognized for music achievements
The April regular meeting of the Bethlehem Area School board held no surprises. Bills were paid, facilities projects are on schedule. Teachers, students, administrators and parents prepare for the predictable end of another school year and the beginning of summer vacation.
April (and May) tend to be the time the administration recognizes outstanding contributions by groups and individuals who have made a difference throughout the year. This meeting focused on the music departments in both Freedom and Liberty high schools.
Freedom Principal Laurie Sage, Band Director Michael Moran and Vocal Music Director Jennifer Volpato-Huntsberger presented certificates to students selected to participate in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association’s Festivals. They include Ian Baltz – District Band and Region Band, Cole Faccinetto – District and Regional Chorus, Brady Katynski -District and Regional Orchestra, Kayden Taylor-District Chorus, Maxim Tifny-Regional Band, Benett Vertel District and Regional Band and All State Concert Band, Julius Vertel – District and Regional Band.
Representing Liberty were Interim Principal Rick Amato and Assistant Band Director William Lennox. Students Levi Carolan – District Chorus, Orchestra and Band, and Regional Orchestra, Jaxson Dorsey – District Band, Cameron Dunham – Regional Chorus, District Orchestra and Band, and All State Concert Band, Gracen Frank – District Chorus, Andrew Fortsch-District Orchestra and Band, and Regional Orchestra and Band, and All State Concert Band, Benjamin Graybeal – District Chorus and Band, Casey Huie – District and Regional Band, Malia Lockhart – District Chorus and Band, Hana Mohamed – Regional Chorus were recognized for outstanding musical contributions.
Community business contributor Giant Food Markets presented a “large check” for $15,079.66 to the school district. The funds are raised when customers round up their total at the register. Giant Foods is recognized for their continued support and generosity.
