TIGER RUN: NWLEF is sponsoring their annual Tiger Run and Fun Walk on June 1 at Ontelaunee Park. This is a family-friendly event featuring 5K, 10K, and 1-Mile Fun Race options for all ages and experience levels. PUP RUN: New this year to the Tiger Run is “Pups in the Park.” Bring your four-legged friend along for the 1-Mile Fun Race. STUDENT CHALLENGE: Students are challenged to “Represent Your School.” The building with the most participation wins $200 toward their PE program. 4-H ARCHERY: Youth between the ages of 8-18 (age as of Jan. 1, 2025) are invited to join us for one of several archery experiences.
May 16: 4-H Introduction to Archery Night at 7 p.m. Learn about the Lehigh County 4-H Archery program and the experiences available. Attendance May 16, Introduction to Archery Night is required to join the Beginner Archery Camp. Register by May 15 at https://4h.zsuite.org/.
May 29, June 5, 12 and 19: 4-H Beginner Archery Camp. Knowledgeable instructors will work with you to instill the basics of archery and to develop your confidence and competence on the range. Sessions run from 5-8:30 p.m. Attendance on May 16, Introduction to Archery Night, is required. Open to campers ages 10-18 as of Jan. 1, 2025. Fee due May 29. Beginning in October, Intermediate Archery Club for Intermediate level archers. Knowledgeable instructors will work with you to extend your previous knowledge of archery. Access to your own bow (above basic level) is beneficial to get the most of this year-round club experience for those truly interested in advancing in the sport of archery. Registration will open in October.
Club details will be shared with registrants closer to the time of the first session.
HAWK MOUNTAIN: Amphibians and Reptiles of the Hawk Mountain Region of Pennsylvania 8:30 a.m. — 4 p.m. May 17–18. This two-day workshop, led by Dr. Thomas LaDuke, explores the life history, habitats, identification, and proper handling techniques of amphibians and reptiles found at Hawk Mountain and its surrounding areas. Registration required. There is a fee.
Spring Native Plant Sale, 10 a.m. — 3 p.m. May 17 and 10 a.m. — 2 p.m. May 18.

MEMORIAL DAY: Ceremony at Ontelaunee Park, 11 a.m. May 25. National Anthem will be sung by Valerie Borman. Honoring local Gold Star Family Alan and Tammy Van Paryn. Food trucks on site. Veterans are encouraged to wear uniforms or military service apparel.
KUTZTOWN GRANT: Kutztown University has been awarded a $946,951 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education for its Dual Credit Innovation program to address the state’s teacher shortage. The grant will support scholarships and programming for KU’s Early College Academy for Education.
KU’s Early College Academy for Education is an innovative approach to rethinking dual enrollment that thoughtfully and intentionally steps students into college, supporting their successful transition to postsecondary education. High school students who have a general interest in working with children and education studies can attend classes on KU’s campus, where they will take two courses in the fall semester and two in the spring. The four courses count toward majors in education.

DISPLACED SCHOLARSHIPS: Muhlenberg College has announced the launch of its Displaced Workers Scholarship program, designed to support federal, state, and local government workers who have lost their jobs due to layoffs. This program also extends benefits to each of Muhlenberg’s corporate partners, providing financial relief and career-focused educational opportunities for those seeking to reenter the workforce with new, in-demand skills.
The new scholarship applies to all Muhlenberg College graduate, degree-completion, and continuing education programs. Based on regional labor market trends and growing employer demand, areas of study include business, health care management and leadership, information technology, business analytics, and education.
Qualifying students may receive an estimated scholarship value of up to $5,250 for graduate programs and $5,000 for undergraduate degree-completion programs. Displaced workers from Muhlenberg’s partner institutions will receive the scholarship benefit of the highest value.
