Resident fence approved in Salisbury

The Salisbury Township Zoning Hearing Board has approved an appeal for a new fence at a township residence and an addition to a market.

Township zoners voted 5-0, with two zoning board members absent, to approve the appeal of Richard and Joan Barrall, 1903 S. Halstead St., who requested variance relief to maintain a 6-foot-high, vinyl privacy-style fence within the required front yard setback and install an additional 6-foot-high, vinyl privacy-style fence within the same front yard setback where only 4-foot-high, wood or fiberglass type material fencing with a minimum open ratio of 2:1 is permitted.

Attorney Ian Baxter, zoning hearing board vice chairman, made the motion, seconded by zoning hearing board member Nicholas Birosik, to bring the motion to a vote.

The property is in the R4, Medium Density Residential zoning district. The required front yard setback is 25 feet.

“We would like to continue the vinyl fence around the property and attach it to the garage,” Richard Barrall said before the vote.

“We received many comments from neighbors that it adds to the beauty of the neighborhood,” Richard Barrall said.

At the March 12 zoning hearing, zoners voted 5-0, with two zoning board members absent, to approve the appeal of KPJP, LLC, 1017 E. Emmaus Avenue, requesting variance relief to construct a 460-square-foot building addition and expand the floor area of a nonconforming, nonresidential use by more than 25% since becoming a nonconforming use.

The property, which is the location of Emmaus Avenue Market, is in the R4, Medium Density Residential zoning district.

Baxter made the motion, seconded by zoning hearing board member Joseph Kovach, to bring the motion to a vote.

The 7 p.m. May 14, zoning hearing board meeting is canceled.
