Northampton: AARP group to meet May 14

The Northampton AARP Chapter 3915 will meet May 14 at the Northampton Banquet and Event Center, 1601 Laubach Ave. Doors will open 11 a.m.

The trip table is available for anyone who would like to join the group on 2025 trips.

Tickets will be on sale for the annual June picnic. You must have a ticket to be admitted, and no tickets will be sold at the picnic. Emil Schanta will entertain. All members are invited to attend.

An all-you-can-eat pork and sauerkraut dinner, basket raffle and bake sale will be held 4-7 p.m. May 17 at Grace United Church of Christ, 902 Lincoln Ave.

Dinners include pork, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, applesauce, dinner roll, dessert and beverages. Children’s hot dog dinners, for ages 10 and under, will be available.

Dinner will be for dine-in or takeout. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church’s basket social is set for noon-7 p.m. May 17 and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. May 18 at the church, 2181 Washington Ave. Drawings will be held 1:30 p.m. May 18.

Gifts include baskets, gift cards and larger items. Delicious homemade food and baked goods will also be available.

Wheels on the Canal is set for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. May 17 at Canal Street Park, 1400 Canal St. The rain date is May 18.

The event features a car show and craft and vendor fair, all benefiting Mission 22 and the Blue Star Mothers of America Lehigh Valley Chapter 201.

Vehicle and vendor registrations are open.

Northampton Area School District community education is currently offering classes.

Water aerobics with Susan Roberts will be held 7:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays though May 29 in the Northampton Area Middle School natatorium. Come experience a low-impact workout that is kind to your joints and utilizes noodles, water dumbbells and water belts to get a total body workout.

Beginner crocheting with Stephanie Mohler will be 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through May 28 in the George Wolf Elementary School library. You will work toward a project of your choice. All materials will be provided. No drop-ins are permitted.

Lap and open swim will be 7:30-8:30 p.m. May 14, 21 and 28 in the middle school natatorium. You can swim laps, tread water or use kickboards, noodles or water dumbbells to do your own exercises.

Coed basketball with Matthew Heisler is set for 10-11:30 a.m. May 17, 24 and 31 and June 7 at the Lehigh Elementary School gym. You will have time to warm up, then be put into teams to play a friendly game of basketball. All abilities are welcome.

Participants do not need to be NASD residents to join but must be at least 15 years old. Register at nasdschools.org under the community tab.

Northampton Fire Department 42 is hosting its third annual fire cadet camp July 7-11. The camp, open to borough residents only until further notice, is set for 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. each day with a graduation ceremony July 12.

The camp, 4 Lerchenmiller Drive, teaches young adults ages 11-15 what a firefighter does. There will be scheduled events throughout each day that will include hands-on training, team building, mentorship and more. Maximum capacity is 20 students.
