North Catasauqua: Zoning hearing board to meet May 8 for Third Street property
The zoning hearing board will hold a meeting 5:30 p.m. May 8 for approvals that would allow an apartment as an accessory use at 1342 Third St.
The zoning board will also meet 5:30 p.m. June 12 for a special exception hearing and a request for variances at the property located at 1001-1003 Second St. This is the northeast corner of Second and Chapel streets.
The intended improvement will propose a 20-resident sober living facility.
Hearings are held in the basement-level meeting room at borough hall, 1066 Fourth St. The meeting is open to the public.

The George Taylor House, Lehigh and Poplar streets, Catasauqua, will hold a murder mystery event at the GTH May 10, with three sessions to choose from — noon-2 p.m., 2-4 p.m. and 4-6 p.m.
After much anticipation, the long-awaited rescheduled murder mystery is finally here, and it’s replacing the usual Mother’s Day luncheon with an event full of intrigue, suspense and tea. Step into history for a thrilling and immersive murder mystery experience. There will also be tea tasting of blends inspired by the Boston Tea Party —Bohea, Hyson, Souchong and more.

Remember the North Catasauqua Borough sewer invoices were mailed out to residents and businesses. Invoices are due by May 12.
There is a penalty fee if invoices are paid on or after May 13.
The borough office reminds residents to pay the difference in the updated second borough tax bill for 2025 that was mailed out if you have not done so.

The Catasauqua and North Catasauqua J4 Committee is looking for new members and volunteers to help organize the community celebration of our country’s 250th anniversary, which will occur in 2026. The next meeting will be held 7 p.m. May 13 at borough hall.

Voters who prefer to vote by mail-in or absentee ballot for the upcoming primary election have until May 13 to apply for the ballot and until 8 p.m. May 20 to return it.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 122 Union St., Catasauqua, is holding a grab-and-go spaghetti dinner. Pickup is set for May 21.
The dinner consists of spaghetti with homemade meat sauce with your choice of lean ground beef or lean ground turkey, a side salad with dressing choice and a roll. There is a cost.

There are two wiffle ball counselor positions available for ages 16 and older. The position requires working with kids ages 6-17 during the Fun in the Sun summer program at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St.
The hours are approximately 12:30-3:15 p.m., with a wage of $15 per hour. The job duties include helping to supervise the children, pitch to them and keep score.
All applicants must have state volunteer clearances based on age. Ages 16-17 must have child abuse and state criminal background checks, and 18-plus must have child abuse, state criminal background check and FBI fingerprinting.
Applications can be obtained and returned to borough hall. All applications must be received by May 21.

St. John Fisher Roman Catholic Church, 1229 Third St., will hold a basket social May 30 and 31 and June 1.

The annual North Catasauqua Police Association Community Day is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. May 30 at the North Catty park.
There will be a deejay; bounce houses; kids’ games and activities, such as rock climbing, a magic show and face painting; police, fire and military displays; a basket raffle; craft vendors; and outreach organizations.

The grief support group at St. Mary’s is hosting a three-hour workshop/seminar for loss of spouse 9 a.m. May 31 in the parish center. The registration fee includes your workbook and refreshments throughout the morning.
This event is being hosted by longtime GriefShare facilitator and widow Judy Plica, of Berks County. Plica was featured on WFMZ 69 News last month as she received an American Red Cross Hometown Hero Award for the grief work she does.

Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church will hold its 18th annual junior Victorian tea and basket raffle 2-4 p.m. June 1. Doors will open 1:30 p.m. for the basket raffle.
There will be kid-friendly beverages, desserts, door prizes and activities. Adults must be “accompanied” by a child. Dads, sons and grandsons are welcome.
The event is hosted by the Holy Trinity youth, and proceeds from the event will be used to sponsor a child in Lesotho through World Vision and related causes.

Suburban North Family YMCA will run the borough’s Fun in the Sun summer program again this year. The program is open to children in kindergarten through fifth grade and will run 9:30 a.m.-noon Mondays to Fridays from June 16 to Aug. 1.
Wiffle ball is planned in the afternoon.
The program is open to 40 children, with sign-ups for North Catasauqua residents first and then Catasauqua residents, if space is available, June 1. Sign-up information will be available soon.
