Egypt/Cementon: Community yard sale to be held May 9

The annual Timberidge community yard sale and Parkland Family Food Pantry food drive will be held May 9 during various hours and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. May 10 and 11. The community is located at Levans Road and Juniper Drive, Coplay.

Canned and boxed food donations are accepted.

Egypt Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7293, 5209 Springmill Road, is hosting concerts by DNA May 9, GirlCrue May 10, the Castaway trio May 17 and Stereotype May 24. These concerts begin 7:30 p.m.

The Jimmy Leahy and Greg Hollister duo will perform 6-9 p.m. May 23.

Performances are free to members, but there is a cost for guests and nonmembers.

The VFW will be holding music bingo 7 p.m. May 15 and 29.

Celebrate Mother’s Day at the VFW’s breakfast brunch, scheduled for 9 a.m. May 11.

Enjoy a Mother’s Day breakfast, set for 8-11 a.m. May 11 at Laurel Fire Company, 5114 Third St., Cementon. The event is open to the public.

Country line dancing sessions are back at Egypt Memorial Park, Hillcrest Lane and Curt Simmons Drive. The sessions are planned for 6:15-8 p.m. May 14 and 28 and June 6 and 25.

If 1980s music is your jam, ’80s dance party fitness classes will be held at the park 6:30-7:30 p.m. every Tuesday in May.

ALIAS will provide an evening of entertainment 7 p.m. May 17 at Laurel Fire Company. There is a cost.

The John Owen Mann Foundation is hosting a veterans’ cornhole tournament 11 a.m. May 18 at the VFW. Register the day of the event starting 10 a.m. or in advance via the link on the VFW Post 7293, Home of the Tomcat Facebook page.

The VFW auxiliary will hold a basket raffle fundraiser, planned for May 23 and 24. See the Post’s Facebook page for details.

Egypt Memorial Park’s festival and Curt Simmons Day is scheduled for 11 a.m.-10 p.m. May 31.

Events include a cornhole tournament, car show 11 a.m.-5 p.m., a cupcake contest from noon to 2 p.m. and then entertainment by GirlCrue 2-5 p.m., The Higher Notion 5-6 p.m. and The Aardvarks 7-10 p.m. There will be a basket raffle, crafts, games, kids’ activities and plenty of food and beverages available for purchase.

The car show, hosted by Pennsylvania Outdoor Veterans, benefits veterans and their families. Preregistration and details are available by calling 484-239-7388.

The youth group at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 4331 Main St., Egypt, is collecting new or gently used clothing and accessories for all ages and genders, shoes and household items like tablecloths, towels, bed sheets, curtains and stuffed animals. They also accept bicycles in good working condition.

The clothing will be distributed to local thrift shops. Place shoes in a separate bag or box.

Put all items in bags and place them on the enclosed porch off the parking lot at the rear of the church by June 14.
