Coplay: Triple Dog Dare concert set for May 9 at Coplay Saengerbund

Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., is planning its summer concert series.

The May lineup for Friday night concerts includes Triple Dog Dare May 9, Common Bond May 23 (open to the public) and Stereotype May 30.

The gates open 5 p.m., and the kitchen opens 5:30 p.m. Bands will play until 10 p.m.

The Wednesday acoustic concerts are 6-9 p.m. The schedule includes Scott Erickson May 21, the Larry Werner and Madalyn Rayo duo June 4 and Mere Mortals June 16.

The kitchen will be open.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St., will hold a baked chicken leg dinner May 17, with drive-thru pickup 4-5:30 p.m.

The menu includes 1/4 chicken leg, baked potato, green beans, applesauce, roll and dessert. Freewill donations are gratefully accepted.

Coplay Garden Club meets 7 p.m. May 29 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The group meets the last Thursday of the month.

The tip of the month: Now is a great time to plant bearded iris, which are spring- flowering perennials that can add beauty to your garden.

St. John’s Lutheran Church is planning a sandwich pickup lunch June 14. Drive-thru pickup is 10-11:30 a.m. The menu includes a choice of ham and cheese or turkey and cheese, a bag of chips, small bottle of water and dessert.

The meal is for preorders only, and the deadline to order is June 6. Call Karen at 610-653-2816.

Coplay Food Bank, located in the lower level of the municipal building, is open 8:30-10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month.

If unable to attend the scheduled Tuesday morning time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928 to make other arrangements.

The food bank needs coffee, spaghetti sauce and noodles, canned pasta, rice pouches and non-sweetened dry cereals. Monetary donations are always accepted.

The Coplay Scholarship Fund Committee is awarding two $5,000 scholarships to Coplay residents who graduated from high school and are planning further education at a university, college, technical school or the police academy.

Scholarships are awarded annually. To support the committee, a 503(c)(3) nonprofit, send a contribution to 41 N. Eighth St., Coplay, 18037.
