PHS baseball clinches D-11 spot
The Parkland baseball team clinched a district playoff berth last week and looks to seal one of the top seeds for the East Penn Conference playoffs.
Last week the Trojans (10-2 overall; 9-1 EPC) suffered their first loss in nearly a month, but it came in a nonleague game as their EPC win streak has reached eight games. The last time Parkland lost a league game was the second game of the season, March 20 against Freedom.
Parkland dropped an 11-5 decision to Wilson West Lawn last Thursday.
The Bulldogs took an early 3-0 lead but the Trojans tied the game in the fourth inning. Wilson responded with seven runs in the next two innings while outhitting Parkland 10-6 in the game.
Aiden Henning went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI for Parkland. Ben Weninger went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Carter DeLong was tagged with the loss despite allowing four hits and just one earned run over four innings. The Trojans committed three errors in the loss, while their opponent made four errors.
Parkland bounced back with a 4-3 win over Easton Saturday.
Will Dobil went 2-for-3 with an RBI against Easton. Steven Sepko pitched five innings and allowed four hits and one earned run while striking out five batters and walking two. Sawyer Marsteller got the win, allowing one hit and no earned runs over two innings.
The Trojans rolled to a 20-0 win over Dieruff Monday in five innings. Leading 10-0 after four innings, Parkland put up 10 runs in the fifth inning for a mercy-rule win.
Dempsy Lawson no-hit the Huskies over five innings while striking out five batters and walking one.
Dobil went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs. Weninger was also 2-for-3 while driving in three runs and scoring once. Mack Parsell went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
With eight games left on the schedule, including six league games, Parkland is tied with Liberty for the best record in the EPC and is half a game off the Hurricanes’ pace at the top of the District 11 Class 6A rankings.
