A liquor license transfer was approved for the new Giant Food Store at the South Mall, Salisbury Township.

By a vote of 4-0, with one commissioner absent at a public hearing April 24, the Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners approved a resolution approving an intermunicipal transfer of a Pennsylvania Liquor License to Salisbury Township from outside the municipality for Giant Co, LLC.

Township Commissioner Alex Karol made the motion, seconded by Commissioner Alok Patnaik, to bring the resolution to a vote.

Approved was the transfer of Pennsylvania Restaurant Liquor License No. R982 from The Giant Company, LLC at 3015 W. Emmaus Avenue, Allentown, to a new store at 3300 Lehigh St., Salisbury Township.

The transfer must be approved by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.

The Giant Company, LLC, was represented at the Salisbury hearing by Attorney Ellen Freeman of Flaherty & O’Hara, PC, Pittsburgh.

Giant plans to build a new store on the site of the former Bon Ton at the South Mall, replacing its West Emmaus Avenue, Allentown, store.

The Giant store is scheduled to open in November, it was stated at the hearing.

“It’s very good for Salisbury and that mall,” Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners President Debra J. Brinton said of the new Giant Food Store, adding, “To have Giant revitalize that mall is wonderful.”

Also at the April 24 meeting by a vote of 4-0, with one commissioner absent, a resolution was approved authorizing and approving a grant application for replacement of an existing water main at Linda Lane and Gail Avenue. Commissioner Heather Lipkin made the motion, seconded by Patnaik, to bring the resolution to a vote.

Salisbury is requesting a Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program grant of $420,600 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority to replace the water main under Linda Lane and Gail Avenue.

If Salisbury is awarded the grant, the resolution commits the township to provide 15% of funds toward the total project.
