Macungie Borough Council met April 21, where council members approved a plan to begin the process of applying for a grant for a park on Spruce Street. The estimated amount to complete this project is $285,000. Various activities are in the plans for the park including a suggested walking path.
Borough residents are concerned over the additional fee on their sewer bills which is a result of the Lehigh County Authority’s upcoming upgrade.
Work will begin on the Brookfield Circle and Main Street crosswalk. This is the fifth crosswalk project in the first phase of the crosswalk project. A grant was received to cover the costs.
Macungie police will get 12 new radios and five bases which was a mandate made by the state at a cost of $18,245 per year for five years. The total cost is $91,225.17. Lehigh County will offer funding for the radios with a repayment plan to begin in 2026.
There is a proposal to curtail parking of trucks at the bump outs on Main Street. There are three intersections in question including Main and Poplar streets. Parking in these areas makes for poor viability so limitations are being suggested. This project will move forward with council members.
Diane Angermeier spoke about volunteerism at Macungie Memorial Park. It’s that time of year when organizations begin using the park for shows. These events need volunteers to help ensure success and keep the park self-supporting. From car shows starting in May and going on each month through October to dog shows and flea markets, events need volunteers. Opportunities include working in the refreshment stand to gate duty.
