Emmaus Lioness Lions Club hosts annual basket raffle
The women of the Emmaus Lioness Lions Club held their largest fundraiser of the year April 4 and 5 at St. John’s U.C.C. Church in Emmaus.
Visitors purchased a sheet of raffle tickets to drop into their choices of 175 baskets. Coordinated by co-chairwomen Cathy Hay and Doris Trumbauer, who personally made the majority of the bows for the baskets, the event typically raises about $9,000.
Baskets have a minimum value of $25, with some baskets’ values as high as $100.
There was also a 50/50 drawing and a lottery wreath valued at $231. The lucky winner could win even more if the tickets are winners.
Also, there were delicious homebaked goods available for sale. A few patrons lost out on anticipated banana cakes with cream cheese icing because the items were sold by the time they completed their basket choices.
Club President Cindy Kaufman, of Emmaus, shared there are currently 40 women in the club and all are active members. This network is so strong that even women such as Deidre Fox, who moved to Bethlehem and Debbie Fegley, of Germansville, remain active members of the Emmaus club.
There are even second generations now being established such as Shari Edgar and her daughter, Becky Herold, of Emmaus, who enjoy serving the community together.
These women set this year’s goal to raise $10,000. Funds raised help them to provide scholarships to students at Emmaus High School and make donations to the Emmaus Public Library, Northeast PA Lions Eye Bank, Bethel Bible Food Bank, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Emmaus ambulance and fire departments, Emmaus Police K-9 program, Emmaus Commemorative Garden, Beacon Lodge, LVHN Pediatric Cancer, Angel Network for East Penn School District, Sights for Hope and more.
Support from the community in this fundraiser allows them to provide help that impacts the local community in a profound way.
The Lioness Lions Club is part of Lions International, which is the world’s largest service club. These women enjoy fellowship, fun and the joy of helping others.
The club meets 6 p.m. on the second Monday of the month September through June at the Superior Restaurant on Main Street in Emmaus.
Any women interested in participating are welcome to join.
