Edward M. Davis Jr.

Parkland School District retiree

Edward M. “Ed” Davis Jr., 86, of Schnecksville, died April 10, 2025, at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Salisbury Township. He married the love of his life, Anne L. (DeVries) Davis June 22, 1963, at the Muhlenberg College Chapel. Born in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Edward M. Davis Sr. and Frances (Fernsler) Davis.

He graduated from Muhlenberg College, Class of 1960, with a Bachelor of Arts degree dual major in biology and chemistry with a minor in English. He earned his master’s degree from Kutztown University and various administrative certificates at Lehigh University.

He retired from Parkland School District in 1999 as assistant to the superintendent in charge of curriculum and instruction after serving the district for 37 years. He started as a ninth grade physical science teacher and established the district’s first courses in applied chemistry and advanced biology.

On the administrative front, he held positions in the district as the high school department chair, K-12 science coordinator, assistant director of curriculum 7-12 and director of curriculum K-12. He also served the district as an assistant football coach and as the first football coach for Springhouse Middle School.

Active in the life of his community, he was a past president (1983-1984) of the Upper Lehigh Lions Club, past secretary for Lions District 14-K, a past member and chair of the North Whitehall Township Park and Recreation Commission. He was a former board member of The Hillside School and the American Heart Association.

He was a founding board member of the Parkland School District Education Foundation, concluding his tenure in 2024. He was an active member of Brookside County Club where he served on the Board of Governors as well as the membership committee for many years.

He served on the Muhlenberg College Board of Trustees from 1999-2011, before being elected as emeritus trustee. He previously served as president of the alumni association, class fund and reunion chairs and was a member of the Lifetime Giving Society, Henry Melchior Muhlenberg Society, Cardinal and Grey Society and the Football 100 Club. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity and served on the Board of Governors post-graduation until recently.

Presently, he was serving as chair of the Circle 1848 and on the planned gifts committee for the Boundless campaign.

He was a member of the Slatington Lodge No. 440, F.&A.M., Community Fire Company No. 1, Schnecksville and a life member of Fearless Fire Company, Allentown. He was an active member of Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, where he served on various committees and completed two terms on the Union Church Cemetery commission.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three godchildren; several cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held 11:30 a.m. April 17 at the Muhlenberg College Chapel, 2400 W. Chew St., Allentown. Family and friends may pay their respects 10-11:30 a.m. April 17 in the Chapel.
