LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Track has busy week

Weather can play a major factor in a track season, and Catasauqua’s team had to deal with some recent elements. Along with prospective meets, Catty also made the most of their situations.

The Rough Riders had their meet last week against Salisbury canceled due to weather, and it makes a challenging week ahead.

“The weather has been pretty crappy,” said head coach Kyle Rusnock. “However, we did manage get some very good practices in.

“Most of our athletes are dialing in and practicing very hard.”

The Roughies will have a meet against Northern Lehigh Tuesday and Salisbury on Wednesday.

This season, junior Hailey Jenkins continues to have the top time in the state in the 100 at 11.80. Her brother, Hamaad, has among the top times in the 200 in the state with his mark at 22.80.

Junior Josiah “JoJo” Lafond has the area’s top time in the 110 hurdles (15.41), and has the second-best time in the 300 hurdles (41.74).

Rusnock also has been impressed with senior Jeremiah Cofie, who has been running the 100 and 220, posting some of the better times. Cofie also is a member of the team’s 4 x 100 relay team, which is one of the league’s and area’s best.

“Jeremiah is an excellent athlete,” said Rusnock. “He has been excelling in his events, and we are very happy to have him back on the team this year.

“He has been lowering his times, and he is one of the hardest workers on the team.”

Rusnock plans to use the meets as well as any practice times to help make his athletes as flexible in events.

“I think it is a time also that the athletes can try different events to see if they can qualify for leagues and districts,” said Rusnock. “We are going to continue grinding and getting better in a daily basis.”
