LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

LHS baseball hoping to stay on top

Liberty has been the king of the diamond the last three years and the Hurricanes look like they’re not ready to have someone dethrone them off their perch.

The Hurricanes enter the week at 7-1 and undefeated in league play. Their only loss this season came against Hazleton back on March 29 in an 8-6 defeat and after winning the last two EPC crowns and three straight District 11 6A titles, Liberty hasn’t missed a beat this season.

“The last couple years have shown the kids who are here now how we at Liberty play baseball,” said Pitsilos. “They are adapting to what they need to do to succeed. We expect a lot out of them and they know it, so they make sure they come in well prepared and in shape.”

The loss to Hazleton is one that Pitsilos hopes will pay off when the postseason rolls around, as the Cougars are typically one of the stronger programs in the eastern half of Pennsylvania.

“The Hazelton loss gave us the experience to hit against 90 mph pitching,” he said. “That’s valuable for further on in the year. Sometimes you can gain experience and win, sometimes you lose but the most important part is the experience.”

Liberty looks to keep their winning ways going this week with league games against Easton (4-3) and Stroudsburg (3-3) on tap.

Liberty, 6-0 in conference play, came into the week atop the EPC standings, playing one more league game than Central Catholic (6-1, 5-0).
