LVECU awards scholarships to outstanding seniors

Members of the Lehigh Valley Educators Credit Union met in the Parkland High School cafeteria on March 22.
A highlight of the meeting was the presentation of scholarships to outstanding seniors in Lehigh Valley high schools.
This year’s scholarship awards were increased from $1,000 to $2,000.
Applicants must be seniors in their respective schools, members in good standing of the LVECU and enrolled as a full-time student in an undergraduate program, minimum 2-year community college, trade or technical school to qualify.
They must have also submitted a 500-word essay on one of two themes: What or who most influenced youR decision to pursue your field of study, or What does success mean to you and do you measure it in your own life.
High School recipients included: Jane Pennabaker and Cara Thomas, both from Northwestern Lehigh; Benjamin Curtis of Emmaus; Cassandra Hager of Palmerton Area; Garet Hill of Parkland; Hannah Kern of Emmaus, Cameron Kubinsky from Salisbury; Katie Miller of Highland View Academy, Aliyah Nothstein from Lehighton Area; and Alexander Williams from Allentown Central Catholic.
Members of Girl Scout Troop 8133, Northampton, gave a presentation about the importance of preventing wildfires in this region.
The title of the presentation was: “It’s Your World-Change It!”
Following the meeting, members and guests were treated to breakfast served by food service employees of the high school.
