Patel, Yao return to singles lineup
The Parkland High School boys tennis team graduated just three players from last year’s team in Ojas Karandikar, Yechan Cho and Matt Ringold.
The Trojans finished the season 18-3 overall and 13-2 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, with the season ending in tightly-contested 3-2 match in the District 11 3A semifinal round.
Head coach Lee Rizzotto has a talented group that is experienced returning from last season. That includes EPC First-Teamer Manav Patel and EPC Third-Teamer Kevin Yao, both at singles. Jack Chu and Noah Elijovich, an EPC Second Teamer in doubles that won the consolation final at EPC Championships. Seniors Gabe Morse and Eric Zager, junior Aron Rabin and sophomores Jacky Zhang, Matt Barbieri and Dan Song. There are some newcomers that will look to break into the lineup as well, including freshmen Derek Yao, Matthew Huang, Eddy Zhang and Truman Rauscher.
“We have a perfect blend of upperclassmen leadership, returning talent and new talent,” said Rizzotto. “We have high expectations for our team and individual players. We expect to compete for one of the top spots in the always challenging conference and district. We look forward to competing against all of the great talent in our area and giving our players the chance to compete and showcase their abilities.”
Parkland opened its 2025 regular season with back-to-back victories in conference play, defeating Pleasant Valley 7-0 in the season opener March 10, and then took down Easton 6-0 last Wednesday.
Against the Red Rovers, Derek Yao, Patel and Kevin Yao all won at singles from first to third in the lineup, respectively. The doubles teams of Rauscher/Yao, Chu/Zhang, Elijovich/Huang and Morse/Zager were all victorious.
