Coplay council OKs requests for events

Several spring- and summer-themed events were approved during the March 11 meeting of Coplay Borough Council.

Shannin Tumini was granted permission to operate the concession stand at the borough’s Parkway Pool for the 2025 season. She held the same role last year and had previously maintained the stand at the Northampton Borough Municipal Pool.

Council members approved Coplay Sports’ request to use the borough gym 1 p.m. April 6 for a meeting of baseball parents.

Coplay Fire Department received permission to use the social hall at borough hall for its annual Easter egg hunt April 12.

Council approved a request from Lehigh County to use 165 Cherry St. as the polling facility for the 2025 elections — May 20 and Nov. 5.

Subdivision plans for property at 256 S. Front St. were approved, as recommended by the borough planning commission. Currently, one structure is located on the large tract. Plans include the addition of two twin homes in front of the existing structure.

Near the end of the meeting, family members of Enci (Aubrey) Wu, a 14-year-old female from Palmer Township who is missing since Jan. 10, addressed council about information they had received regarding the teen having been seen in Coplay. The family reported they had information that Enci had been on Hemlock Drive before her disappearance. Council informed the family that Hemlock Drive was located in North Whitehall Township. Although the roadway does have a Coplay address, it is part of Parkland School District. The family said it would be visiting that municipal meeting as well.

Borough council will next meet April 1 for a workshop and April 8 for a regular meeting. Both meetings will be held 7 p.m. at borough hall, 98 S. Fourth St.
