Looking ahead, Salisbury High School has exciting events both in academics and extracurriculars. From the debate team’s continued success to the start of course selection for next year and a fun event to support National Honor Society, there’s a lot to catch up on.
The Salisbury debate team has once again shown success, securing the Lehigh Valley Interscholastic Debate Association 2024-2025 regular season title. With an impressive 30-2 record, the team has captured this honor for the 18th time under Coach Michael Barna. This season also saw Barna achieve his 900th win. The debate team’s winning streak continues as they now advance to the “playoff” (semifinals) portion of the LVIDA season. The entire Salisbury community wishes them the best of luck as they strive for another championship.
Looking ahead to the 2025-2026 academic year, the course scheduling process is officially underway. Students recently submitted their course requests and guidance counselors have begun meeting with students to discuss their academic plans. This is a crucial step for students as they make decisions that will shape their post-high school careers. Salisbury offers many opportunities for students with nontraditional routes, such as the option for upcoming juniors to take Lehigh Carbon Community College classes during their junior and senior years, potentially graduating with an associate degree. LCTI is also available for any grade level student who wishes to pursue a specific career path, such as becoming an electrician or cosmetologist. These meetings will help students make informed decisions with the support of their guidance counselors.
For some family fun, NHS is hosting a family game night 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 28 in the SHS cafeteria. Attendees can enjoy a variety of board games and card games and are welcome to bring their own favorites as well. Snacks and baked goods will be available for purchase. Students 14 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by Feb. 26 by contacting Megan Basile at mbasile@salisburysd.org. This event promises to be a great opportunity for families to connect and enjoy a night of friendly competition. In other NHS news, Class of 2027 students had a Feb. 20 deadline to submit their applications to join NHS, which are currently under review. This process will bring a new set of students into the society.
From academic achievements and community events to future planning, SHS is busy as always. As the school year progresses, SHS looks forward to celebrating more successes and creating a stronger community.
