Boyle sets a new record
Freedom senior harrier Dylan Boyle set a new course record during last week’s cross country meet at Camp Olympic, Emmaus, on Sept. 17.
“I didn’t realize that. I wasn’t even working for that today. I just ran. I had a lot saved up for the finish. I definitely could’ve kept going,” Boyle said.
Boyle’s time was 16:29.
“A lot hillier than I imagined, but overall, it’s a pretty good course,” he said. “I was gonna ease back for the first two miles and then take off, but it didn’t work out like that today. I was just feeling it. In the hills, I started taking off.”
Freedom sophomore Brayden Boyle took second with a time of 17:00.
“At the big hill about a mile-and-a-half in, I think that’s when I made my move on most of the kids because I was with some Emmaus and Central kids, and then I broke off from them at the big hill,” he said. “I felt like everyone would have little gas there, so I just went full on, and if it came back to bite me, I just wanted to go. I think I paced myself pretty good. I definitely had more, which was good, but it was a fast course.”
Bethlehem Catholic senior Mekhi Britt came in fourth in 17:19
“I was getting shoved out of the box, and I’m thinking, I’ve got to come out here and represent my school,” Britt said. “For me, today was about proving that I could compete with the big schools.”
Becahi coach Krystyn Fenon applauded Britt for his strategy.
“Mekhi had a great start, stayed with the lead pack and worked his way up, one by one, which is a good method. I would’ve done the same,” she said.
Also in the top 10 was Liberty’s Ethan Caine, placing ninth with a time of 17:59.
In team scores, Liberty defeated Whitehall, 23-26.
Freedom defeated Allentown Central Catholic, 27-29, and Whitehall, 15-45. Emmaus edged out the Patriots, 26-33.
