Catasauqua: Annual junior tea event to be held May 19 at Holy Trinity

The annual junior Victorian tea and basket raffle will be 2-4 p.m. May 19 at Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St. The doors open 1:30 p.m. for the basket raffle.

The kid-friendly event is hosted by the Holy Trinity youth group and is suitable for boys and girls ages 3-12.

The afternoon will include a craft, Victorian style dress-ups, bingo, a basket raffle and kid-friendly beverages and desserts, all served on real china. Adults must be accompanied by a child. Dads, sons and grandsons are welcome, too.

Dress up or come casual. There will be a prize for the best dressed.

Reservations are required. For tickets or more information, call or text Diane at 610-739-6006.

All of the proceeds will be used to sponsor a child in Lesotho through World Vision and related causes.

Holy Trinity’s youth have sponsored a child through World Vision since March 2013. They are responsible to send $35 per month to World Vision for Tsepang’s support. The proceeds from this year’s event will be used to continue Tsepang’s monthly sponsorship as well as support for her family and community.

Besides fundraising, the event brings families in Catasauqua into the community and gives them an enjoyable afternoon together.

As another example of this small youth group’s commitment to service, the youth sponsored the Souper Bowl of Caring for the 25th year in February and collected $444 for Allentown YMCA’s warming station for area homeless neighbors.

During the past year, the youth gave their time as servers at the dinners hosted by the church, which donates 100% of the proceeds to a variety of area nonprofit organizations.

Last year’s youth-hosted junior tea event raised $1,183 for the sponsored child and her community and to fight world hunger. In attendance were 93 children and adults enjoying the tea.
