Ed Center marks 100 years

Planning is underway to commemorate one hundred years of service to the community by the present day Bethlehem Area School District Education Center. Built in 1924 as the Edgeboro School students from kindergarten to sixth grade attended through the 1978-79 school year when it was known throughout the community as the Edgeboro ES.

A committee of BASD officials and residents, a number of whom attended or taught at Edgeboro, has formed and an open house is scheduled for Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a centennial celebration. Families students, alumni, former/current BASD employees and others will be able to tour the building, take photos, and reminisce about their time attending or working there.

Organizers are looking for community, alumnae, teachers’ and BASD administrators’ support to provide memorabilia, photos or videos. Anyone with materials that could be displayed the day of the open house should email Barbara Clymer at bclymer@basdschools.org; and in addition brief videos in which people present a special memory will also be accepted at the same email address. Items will be accepted through July 31.

BASD administrators and teachers are also seeking information to pinpoint where a time capsule might be buried on the property located on Sycamore Street in Bethlehem. If it can be located, the contents will also be put on display at the Sept. 14 open house. Contact Barbara Clymer at bclymer@basdschools.org with any leads.
