Corinne Mammana to jazz it up at Godfrey’s

If you are into jazz in the Lehigh Valley, chances are you have seen and heard Corinne Mammana.

Acclaimed by JazzTimes and All About Jazz, Mammana’s smooth, mesmerizing vocals have been heard at Musikfest, SteelStacks, Hotel Bethlehem, Sellersville Theater and the Deer Head Inn.

Mammana has a concert with Patrick Kerssen, piano; Paul Rostock, bass, and Vernon Mobley, drums, 7 p.m. April 27, Godfrey Daniels.

Mammana’s style is centered in the standards of the Great American Songbook, but she branches out with modern songs that include her originals, and covers of songs by ABBA, Tool, the Cure, Simon and Garfunkel and Miley Cyrus.

She has done concerts featuring Disney songs, works by Norah Jones and Christmas songs from her 2022 EP, “In the Christmas City.”

Mammana can make songs sound fresh. “You can change the tempo or the bass line, or give them a different feel as a bossa nova or a blues,” Mammana says in a phone interview.

“Jazz is making a comeback, with many younger artists. Samara Joy, who is a jazz singer, won the 2023 Grammy Award for Best New Artist. People are rediscovering it.”

Mammana previously performed at Godfrey Daniels in January 2020, just before the pandemic, with a preview for her album “Yes, No, Next.” It was her second release after her 2016 EP “Under an August Moon.”

“As part of the crowdfunding campaign for the album, I took three or four requests in advance, which I did at Godfrey’s.” Videos from the concert are posted on YouTube.

The upcoming Godfrey concert, with a theme of springtime, includes her new single, “Tickled Pink,” composed by her writing partner Eric Todd.

She is planning a new yet untitled CD, which will be mostly originals by her and Eric Todd.

Mammana lives with her husband, Louis, and their dog, Oscar, in Palmer Township.

She moved to the Lehigh Valley in 2012. She gives voice and piano lessons from her home, and was a voice teacher for Pennsylvania Youth Theatre.

Mammana, born and raised in Plymouth Meeting, Montgomery County, studied musical theater, receiving a Bachelor in Music from James Madison University. After graduation, she performed in professional and regional theater in Virginia and the Philadelphia area.

Her interest in jazz came about when she was asked to sing with guitarist Frank DiBussolo’s group at the Lafayette Bar, Easton, where she performed earlier in April.
