‘I unfortunately am not very optimistic about our future’

To the Editor:

I read your article called The Great Divide. I was very impressed by what you were saying. I, too, wish that we could all come together again as a country.

You may be too young, but I remember when Ronald Reagan and Tip O’Neill would sit down and talk through issues. No more!

Although I wish we could get back together again, I doubt it will ever happen. Unless, one of the two following things occur.

One, a massive natural disaster. I’m not talking about Katrina, I’m talking about a major part of the country is destroyed by a major earthquake or volcano. We would then come together as a country to put the pieces back together.

Or, two, we are forced to fight a war partially on our own soil. I would say our differences would quickly be put on the back burner at least until the conflict was settled.

The infamous 9/11 attack brought us together for a while. But not long afterward people all started pointing fingers at each other again and here we are today.

But other than that, I unfortunately am not very optimistic about our future. But, as many people like to say, God is in control. So we will see what He has planned!
