Catasauqua: Arbor Day event planned

Catasauqua Borough and its Shade Tree Commission is holding an Arbor Day program 10 a.m. April 27 at the municipal complex, 90 Bridge St. A number of trees will be dedicated in honor of special members of the community to recognize their contributions to the borough.

In other news, the commission recently issued a notice to property owners in the borough. Trees, shrubs, bushes and other woody vegetation on land along the borough right-of-way lines on either side of all streets, avenues, alleys or ways within the borough are controlled by ordinance 245-1.

When the shade tree inspector declares a problem with trees on private property, the property owner will be notified and a written notice will be issued, in accordance with the ordinance. A no-fee permit will be issued to the property owners for removal, pruning, planting, etc.

The permit allows 60 days for the work to be completed. The contractor will fill out the stub at the bottom of the permit upon completion of the work and will mail it back to the borough.

Any property owner needing a permit should call the borough at 610-264-0571. A commission member will return your call.

Additionally, there is a vacancy on the commission for a resident to join. No experience is necessary. Call the borough for more information.
