Board discusses flooding in Covered Bridge Park

At the South Whitehall commissioners April 3 meeting, the board discussed a feasibility assessment and concept plan development for Jordan Creek at Covered Bridge Park, which has experienced flooding and scouring issues along the Jordan Creek.

To address this, the township wants to hire a firm to assess the situation and develop a plan for long-term environmental remediation of the creek.

The study will identify options for fixing the environmental problems in the creek while considering the existing park layout.

This is a preliminary step to give the township options for future remediation efforts.

The study is not expected to solve all the problems at once, but will be a starting point for deciding on further actions.

Township Manager Tom Petrucci asked the board to provide feedback on whether to proceed with the proposed $9,900 study.

“We need to understand what options are available to improve the stream morphology first before engaging in further development of the site,” he said. A decision is expected at next month’s meeting.
