LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Moravian Academy news By Hanning Yan

Despite a slew of confusing shifts in temperature, spring has arrived at Moravian Academy in full force. MA feels almost college-like: if I could set up a hammock between the trees, I would. Students are beginning to enjoy walks outside between classes once more, with the occasional lacrosse players spotted throwing passes to each other on the lawn.

The beautiful tree right in front of Walter Hall has begun to bloom, giving students struggling through their math classes the sight of lovely pink flowers through the calculus classroom windows.

Sports are back in full bloom too, and some of MA’s determined spring athletes could be spotted practicing indoors in the rain last week. MA’s girls lacrosse team was found passing in the gym as it poured. Students who normally run spring track with Notre Dame could be seen jogging up and down the halls of the AWC, making the members of this season’s Fit Club laugh as they lift. Despite the weather, our boys tennis team (captained by Ford Koch and Aveer Chadha) is demonstrating excellence again, with a current 6-0 season and more good work to come.

Despite their best attempts to ignore the looming AP exams, MA scholars are on top of the spring semester. Biweekly office hours are packed with students seeking help, especially down at the labs, where chemistry students can be seen performing titrations or working hard on memorizing muscle names.

The MA Robotics Team, hard at work during many out-of-school hours, could be found this winter and early spring working on its robot in Dr. Lawlis’ room. They had much success in their matches, and we are proud of their end to the season!

The hardworking academic atmosphere is still interspersed with joy and excitement. Even the teachers were abuzz in the auditorium after the unexpected earthquake during assembly.

Students then participated in an egg hunt, sprinting to collect the most eggs for a special prize. Students gathered on the lawn and in Snyder Circle to watch the solar eclipse through the clouds, with some taking amazing photos and others looking almost directly at the sun. MA students have also been working hard on the much-anticipated spring drama, sprinting to rehearsal after a Dunkin run gone too long. (See “12 Angry Jurors” from April 26-28.) What an exciting few months for our students.

Through all this, seniors have been counting down the days to leave early: each senior has set up an exciting post-term project or internship to further their learning beyond MA. Though we are sad to see them go at the beginning of May, good things are to come. We know our Lions will make their mark in the world.

In the meantime, we will enjoy our last few months on campus this year as they come: the warmth of the days reflecting the warmth in our Lions’ hearts. As the Moravians have always said throughout history: “in essentials unity, in nonessentials liberty, and in all things love.” Go Lions.
