Communities That Care members to start reviewing PAYS data

During the March 22 Whitehall-Coplay Communities That Care meeting, it was noted the coalition will start reviewing the most recent Pennsylvania Youth Survey data. The analysis of the PAYS report will occur during the summer months and will inform programming and other initiatives for the future.

Wendy Texter, of the Center for Humanistic Change and interim CTC moderator, reported she expects to have a new permanent moderator in the role in place for the next meeting. The opening comes as a result of longtime coordinator Denise Continenza’s recent retirement.

It was reported the CTC will have a presence at the Whitehall-Coplay School District Family Night, scheduled for 5:30-8:30 p.m. April 17. The event is a celebration of the district’s community and its cultural diversity.

There was discussion about having an interactive component, in addition to having informational materials. Whitehall High School senior Tiana Waithaka suggested having a station where people can write down something they love about the district and community and putting all of those missives on a big poster board. It was also mentioned they could have a coloring station for young kids.

Leeanne Debrosse, from Valley Youth House, reported there will be approximately 150 students attending the highway safety conference April 16, held in conjunction with the DUI/Highway Safety Task Force. The conference will feature SADD programs, and WHS and Whitehall-Coplay Middle School students will be attending.

The next Whitehall-Coplay CTC meeting is set for 9 a.m. April 26 at WHS, 3800 Mechanicsville Road.
