Respectfully Yours: Graduation time is time for gift for grad

Dear Jacquelyn,

Graduation time is around the corner and I would love to purchase a meaningful, useful gift for a special grad in my life. Can you please offer some suggestions for an appropriate gift?

Dear Reader,

Like clockwork, graduation season is upon us.

It is an exciting time as it exemplifies new beginnings, so naturally you want to get the perfect gift for the new grad in your life.

Whether your grad is fresh out of high school, college or entering the job market, they will undoubtedly appreciate a thoughtful gift. Here are some gift ideas that are a good starting point for some inspiration.

Cash gifts are always welcome and appreciated. Pair it with a personalized card for a heartfelt touch. Gift cards are also great for graduates. Consider gift cards to a budget-friendly home store, gas card or local coffee shop.

As much as your graduate will appreciate cash, it may feel impersonal to you. You might want to pick a college graduation gift that’s a little more personalized but still just as useful.

There is a wide range of traditional and practical gift options. If you are deciding on a more traditional gift, consider a nice watch, leather portfolio or personalized stationery.

Your grad might prefer a more practical gift that won’t go unused, such as a mini-fridge, small coffee maker or a useful and stylish planner.

A care package is another perfect gift to prepare grads for the transition. Pack a laundry basket full of necessities like laundry detergent, a throw blanket, shower caddy or personal-care items.

This is a memorable time in every grad’s life. Taking the time and forethought to pick out a meaningful gift will truly be appreciated.

Respectfully Yours,

Jacquelyn
