Hokendauqua: St. John’s to hold Easter services

St. John’s United Church of Christ, Mickleys, will hold a Maundy Thursday Tenebrae service, with a disciples communion, 7 p.m. March 28 at the church, 2918 MacArthur Road.

St. John’s will have a Stations of the Cross service March 29, in collaboration with St. John’s, Laurys Station; St. Peter’s, Seemsville; St. John’s, Fullerton; St. Paul’s, Northampton; and Grace UCC, Northampton. There will be a meditative time 11 a.m.-noon, followed by the service and an opportunity for reflection.

Also, St. John’s will have its Easter Sunday service March 31, beginning 10 a.m. The church choir will be performing the cantata “Because He Lives.”

The deacons group at First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua is donating items for bingo prizes for residents at Fellowship Manor, Cedarbrook and Above and Beyond at the Knights for this month’s local outreach project.

In addition to the deacons buying prizes for the residents, the group is also looking for gently used costume jewelry, such as bracelets, pins, necklaces and more, from the community.

You can drop off your donations in the fellowship hall of the church, 3005 S. Front St., through March 31.

Whitehall Township will hold indoor public swim sessions 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesdays through May 15, for Whitehall and Coplay residents only, in the natatorium at Whitehall High School, 3800 Mechanicsville Road. A photo ID proving township or borough residence is required.

No swimming will be held when school is closed for a holiday, teacher in-service or inclement weather.

Children under the age of 10 must be supervised by a parent/guardian. In addition, any child in need of a flotation device must be accompanied by a parent/guardian in the pool.

Hokey Athletic Association will be holding a designer purse bingo April 21 at American Club of Coplay, 300 Cherry St. Doors open 2 p.m., and bingo begins 3 p.m.

There will also be five special bingos, a chance auction and special raffles. The kitchen will be open.

Tickets are cheaper when purchased in advance. All proceeds will benefit rookie flags, competitive flags, 100 tackles, 120 tackles and cheering.

The township will be hosting an electronics recycling and document shredding day 9 a.m.-1 p.m. June 29 at the township complex, 3219 MacArthur Road. This event is for Whitehall Township residents only, and proof of residency will be checked.

For this drop-off, you must stay in your vehicle. There is a limit of 10 boxes for document shredding. Also, you must have the exact funds or a check prepared if dropping off any items that include a fee. Make checks payable to Responsible Recycling Services.
