Giant presents check to WCSD

The Giant Company is supporting Whitehall-Coplay School District.

The district’s pantry program provides food to more than 200 students who are food insecure. Toiletries and clothing are also provided to those who need them.

“As part of its ongoing commitment to eliminate hunger in the communities it serves, the Giant Company is helping to support the food pantry program at Whitehall-Coplay School District. The program, which provides nonperishable food items, clothing and toiletries, supports 250 students in the district,” a Feb. 27 news release said.

Whitehall Giant store manager BaSil Mitchell was on hand March 4 at Whitehall High School, 3800 Mechanicsville Road, to present the district a check for $8,000 in support of the food pantry, toiletries and clothing program.

Representing WCSD and accepting the check were Robert Steckel Jr., WCSD superintendent; Michelle Khouri, WCSD registrar and community relations; and Renee Sallit, director of teaching, learning and technology.

Customers at Giant, Martin’s and Giant Heirloom Market stores can also support their local school districts’ food programs by rounding up their purchases to the nearest dollar or converting their choice points now through March 31, the news release said.
