Madeline E. Smith

Madeline E. Smith, 100, formerly of Littlestown, Adams County, died March, 4, 2024, in Fellowship Manor, Whitehall.

Born June 3, 1923, on a small farm near Lobelia, Pocahontas County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ellawood E. and Ruby (Lossalderman) Hill.

She owned and operated the former Madeline’s Beauty Shop, Littlestown, for about 35 years before retiring in 1993.

Before that, she worked in several factories, some of which supported World War II efforts.

A member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Littlestown, she attended Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schnecksville.

Her survivors include a son Gregory J. Smith and his wife, Joyce, of Schnecksville; grandchildren Dr. Amy Way and her husband, Larry, of DuBois, Clearfield County; and Dr. Jason Smith and his wife, Dr. Ru Guanwardane of Seattle, Wash.; great-grandchildren Charlotte, Evan and Loren Way; brother Melvin Hill of Bel Air, Md.; and sister Betty Ramsey of Silver Spring, Md.

She was predeceased by eight siblings.

Her memorial service will be announced in the spring at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Littlestown.

Interment will follow the service at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
