Frank P. Messerschmidt III

Frank P. Messerschmidt III, 89, of Bethlehem, died Feb. 16, 2024, in his home with his wife by his side. He was the husband of Roberta Messerschmidt for 67 years. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Frank and Harriet Messerschmidt.

He graduated from Jenkintown High School and Drexel University with a degree in mechanical engineering.

After working in the engineering field, he took on a new challenge of learning systems analysis with Mack Trucks for 28 years. After taking early retirement, he worked for 30 years for Quest Diagnostics as a courier.

He was a member of the Emmaus Lodge 792 F.& A.M. for 61 years, a member of Catasauqua Royal Arch Chapter #278 Allen Council #23 R & S.M.M. of Allentown and Allen-Beauceant Commandery #20 Knights Templar of Allentown.

He was a Boy Scout leader and loved to take the troop to Maine to camp.

He was known for his love of baseball, his silly sense of humor and his love for his family. He was an avid reader and was a history and trivia buff. He loved to keep in touch with his family members who were far away by regularly mailing them articles, puzzles and other fun items of interest.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Patti (Mark), of Austin, Texas; son, John F. (Barbara), of Athens, Ala.; daughter, Pamela (Ray), of Boston, Mass.; granddaughters, Elizabeth, of San Francisco, Calif., Catherine, of Westminster, Colo.; stepgrandchild, Justin, of Idaho; brother, John R., of Las Cruces, N.M. He was predeceased by a son, David Allen.

Contributions may be made to St. Anne’s Episcopal Church or Emmaus Lodge #792 (in care of the funeral home).
