Dr. John Flautz Ballet Guild of the Lehigh Vy. founding member

John Flautz, 93, died February 14, 2024. Born in Parma, Ohio, he was a son of the late John J. and Jean (Constable). He was the husband of the late Nancy (Page) Flautz for 66 years.

He was an English professor of English at Cedar Crest College. He was head of the department until he retired in 1996.He taught mythology and other classes at community colleges and local camps. He made friends and enemies as a theater critic for the Morning Call.

His stated that his religion was Kebsur.

He was a founding member and president of the Ballet Guild of the Lehigh Valley. He was involved in Lehigh County’s civic and artistic communities. He was in productions at Civic Theater, Guthsville, Pennsylvania Playhouse and many others. He was president of the Salisbury Township School Board. He recently inducted into the Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame; he never missing an election in 50 years. He played full court basketball until he was 80.

He is survived by two daughters, Judy Pillar (Tom), and Susan Meixell (Larry); five grandchildren, Elizabeth Thomas, Samantha Clewell, Kate Elias, Laura Cunniff and Robert Meixell; and six great-grandchildren.
