Update on sanitation department grant

Coplay Borough Councilman Todd Santoroski opened the council meeting Feb. 13 with an update on news about the sanitation department’s grant. The grant is funded through the Local Share Account and will be used to purchase a new street sweeper.

Santoroski said this decision is typically made once a year, and grants would not officially be awarded until September.

All members of council were present with the exception of Vice President Charles Sodl and Mayor Stephen Burker.

Council continued with other approvals. Members brought forth and approved a variety of donations, grant spending and details for upcoming social events.

Approvals were made for a $500 donation for the Ironton Rail Trail to support parks and recreational services.

Dates of two borough craft fairs, to be held March 3 and July 27, were approved. Council also motioned and approved waiving the social hall’s rental fee.

Council members were in favor of approving the Community Development Block Grant to purchase a 2023 fire interceptor vehicle through the Pennsylvania COSTARS program in the awarded amount of $37,897. Approval was also met on upfitting one of the intercept vehicles, using the same block grant funds in the amount of $22,500.

The fire department’s request for the annual Easter egg hunt was finalized and approved. The event will be hosted noon March 23 at Saylor Park.

Council will next meet 7 p.m. March 5 for a workshop meeting at borough hall, 98 S. Fourth St.
