Parkland girls wrestlers top PME

The Parkland High School girls wrestling team opened the new year in style and kept its undefeated record in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference dual matches in tact as they went on the road and took down Pocono Mountain East last Wednesday, January 3, 49-18 to improve their mark to 3-0 in conference.

The Trojans also have victories over Emmaus and Liberty on the season.

In the win over the Cardinals, Parkland won nine of the 12 bouts, including four forfeits, three pins, a major decision and a decision.

The Trojans began the match with a pin in 1:17 by Lily Snook at 100. They would then drop the next three bouts and found themselves trailing 18-6 before they rattled off eight straight wins to conclude the match.

Emerson Slaughenhoupt (136), Breanna Hann (142), Damaris Lubin (170) and Shannon Fratus (190) all won via forfeits. Lizkarla Grullon Vasquez and Kelsey Gelb earned back-to-back pins at 148 and 155, respectively. Saige Rittenhouse recorded a 13-6 decision at 124 and Abigail Taylor rounded out the Parkland wins with a 10-2 major decision at 130.

Parkland has a busy week as it will host back-to-back conference duals as they welcomed Northampton to Parkland High School this past Wednesday and host Freedom Thursday. The Trojans will then compete in the Cumberland Valley Girls Dual tournament at Cumberland Valley High School this Sunday.
