EHS tops Mounties after long layoff

The Emmaus High School boys basketball team started 2024 with a win.

The Green Hornets had about two weeks off after losing to Central Catholic on Dec. 21, their final game of 2023. In their first game after the long break, they trailed at halftime but came back to down Stroudsburg on the road for a 53-52 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win last Wednesday.

The Mounties jumped out to a 19-12 lead after the first quarter and the teams were even at 12-12 before the Hornets found themselves behind 31-24 at halftime. They then trailed by as many as 15 points in the third quarter before going mounting the comeback.

Emmaus took its first lead of the game early in the fourth quarter, 45-43, and then had to hold on late for the victory.

Will Barber led the way for the Green Hornets’ offense with 28 points. Jametric Harris also finished in double figures with 11 points. Jack Csensits tallied eight points, Rafael Terrero recorded four points and Mike Rooney rounded out the scoring with two points.

Emmaus hosts Pocono Mountain East on Friday night before traveling to take on Bethlehem Catholic on Tuesday in back-to-back conference games.
